Alberta Landscape Photographer Cody James shares some winter Photos.

I gotta admit time has flown by recently!

It’s tough to get out in the cold weather and take photos. It’s not so bad when you’re driving and it’s warm in your car, but the second you get out and start fiddling around in the cold it’s a whole different ball game! I’ve had the chance to go out a few times in the past few weeks, got a few good shots and had a great time.

This photo is titled ‘Sundog’ I find it to be a retro old timey feeling kind of photo, I had my ND filter on and just tried to capture the landscape and the fading power lines on the snow covered prairies. The unique part of this photo (although I did chose to go B&W) is that bright spot on the top right corner is actually a ‘sundog‘ – Click that for the Wikipedia entry.

Oh and I’ll do my best to include the EXIF data below every picture I put online!

This next shot is a shot of downtown Calgary at night. I gave it a blue hue tone over the B&W and I really love the sleek and modern feel it gives off. It’s crazy that you can’t even see the Calgary Tower in this picture, this city has grown so much. Oh and if you’re wondering about the time stamps accuracy I can assure you that YES I do take photos at that time of night.

This next is one of my favorite shots, it was taken at Elbow Falls (popular place for photographers) but the lighting and time of day really gave this picture some nice tones and it all blends really well in my opinion. This picture is titled ‘Erosion’.

This next photo was taken really close to a location where I capture the image titled ‘No Shooting’ I love the simpleness of shots like this. There’s really nothing to them in terms of building structure, or even detail for that matter but the contrast of the deep blue skies, the white snowy plains, and a little shed that is the same colour as all the trees/bushes works really well. This photo along with Erosion are two of my top candidates that I’ll be considering to enter in this years Calgary Stampede. I am hoping to get the same amount of photos in this year as I’ve had in the past three.
